The Vow (2012)

mp’s rating: 3.5/5

It is a love movie alright, and a good one, it’s just not as good as I wanted it to be.

Inspired by a true story of a real couple who has gotten into an accident, this movie is the marinated version of that. As a happily married couple, Paige (Rachel McAdams) and Leo (Channing Tatum) love each other so much, while suddenly in a moment of impact, everything changes. She woke up in a hospital, unable to recall her memories for the past five years, and stunned for the fact that the guy standing in front of her is her husband.

She didn’t remember.

And like any guy in his right mind, he would try everything to make Paige fell in love with him all over again.

There is a bit of a side story about Paige’s family, and Paige and Leo’s social status difference, but the main event is really trying to find out who you really are now.

I’m quite disappointed because it is a long movie (almost a two-hour one), but I’m feeling that the story is not yet deep enough. Plus, (SPOILER ALERT) Leo gives up. Well, it’s true that he want to give Paige ‘some space and let her discover herself in her own ways’, but I think he shouldn’t have given up. He should have tried to make her fall in love with him again, to actually do it, instead of just saying it.

Needless to say, this movie is like a conjunction of the movies 50 First Dates and The Notebook. Yet it is worth it to be watched at the big screen, especially to see how beautiful Rachel McAdam is!

Memorable quotes:

“I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness, and to have the patience that love demands. To speak when words are needed, and to share the silence when they’re not. To agree to disagree on red velvet cake, and to live within the warmth of your heart and always call it home.” -Paige

“I vow to love you. And no matter what challenges might carry us apart, we will always find a way back to each other. I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love.” – Leo

“I need to make my wife fall in love with me again” – Leo

“You can’t remember how we fell in love. You get to experience it all over again.” – Leo
